How to Visit

From 14 September, by law, we can only accept groups of visitors which are up to 6 people (unless you are visiting as a household or support bubble which is larger than 6).

Please note visitors will need to purchase tickets in advance, however if you haven’t booked a ticket and decide you’d like to visit, please do give us call or an email the morning of the day you’d like to come as we may have some slots still available. All visitors are required to bring and wear a face mask from Friday 24 July, in line with government guidance. There are a limited amount of tickets per time slot. Members will also need to reserve tickets in advance and show your booking when you arrive, either on your mobile or with a print out. This will allow us to manage on-site visitor numbers and limit queues. Last entry is 14:30. There may be exceptions but these will be specified. Please be patient if you are unable to book your tickets in your chosen time slot, and try another date or time as we are expecting to be very busy. If there isn’t an option to buy tickets for a particular day, this is because we are closed. Our usual opening days are now Friday – Sunday, with exceptions for private events.

One Way

Both the Museum building and the Walled Garden will be operating one way systems. These will be clearly marked when you visit. We have made the one way system available for you to view at the link below. You might wish to save this to your phone so you have it when you visit.

Car Parking

Our car parks remain free of charge for museum visitors, but please be considerate when parking your vehicle. The disabled parking spaces must only be used by blue badge holders.


You may have noticed that our prices have changed. The museum has not increased its prices since it reopened in 2016 and since our closure following the COVID-19 pandemic an increase in admission fees has become necessary in order to ensure that the we are sustainable, especially as we are also unable to welcome as many visitors as we usually would. As a charity, every penny we receive goes towards caring for our grounds, collection and museum to make it a beautiful and welcoming haven for all of our visitors. Our membership prices have not changed which makes them great value if you’d like to visit again and again.
